Additional UK troops join EUFOR operation in Bosnia & Herzegovina

UK to send additional 95 troops to EU peacekeeping mission in Bosnia & Herzegovina in support of stability and security.

The UK has responded to a request by European Union Force’s (EUFOR) Operational Commander, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe Sir Adrian Bradshaw, by providing an additional 95 troops to the EU’s peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The troops will assist EUFOR in maintaining stability and security for up to 6 months, including during the election period.

Their deployment is a strong sign of the UK’s continued support for BiH’s security, and our commitment to the important role of Operation Althea, which ensures BiH’s safe and secure environment. The uplift in troop numbers will allow EUFOR to better predict instability, and respond quickly within their Executive Mandate, by providing enhanced situational awareness.

The 95 troops supplement the UK’s existing contribution to EUFOR of 6 staff officers in country, and a reserve company which can deploy to BiH at short notice, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (1 SCOTS). 1 SCOTS returned from BiH recently after a highly successful routine rehearsal, in which they worked alongside the BiH Armed Forces.
