£80k boost helps hard hit families keep warm

Bury Council officers have been busy this week handing out winter warmth packs to 1,000 vulnerable families across the borough.

Those benefitting range from people over 75 to families with children under 5 who applied to the council’s urban renewal team for this help in December.

The packs have been funded by an £80,000 injection from the Department of Health’s ‘Warm Homes Healthy People’ project, and include the following items: thermal clothing for adults and children, electric blankets, fan heaters, cold alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, radiator reflector panels and draught proofing measures.

Councillor Gill Campbell, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and regeneration, said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to access this pot of cash which builds on the success of last year’s project by our urban renewal team who won money from the same source. We’ve been able to help so many more people this time, and I really hope it makes a difference to our local vulnerable communities.”

The project has been developed with colleagues from Six Town Housing, NHS Bury and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
