New Chief Executive for Calderdale

CALDERDALE Council has named Robin Tuddenham as its new chief executive.

Tuddenham, who is currently the council’s director of communities and service support, has been recommended for the role by the authority’s Employment Committee.

Subject to approval by the council, he will replace Merran McRae, who is leaving to become chief executive of Wakefield Council.

In addition to 16 years at Calderdale, Tuddenham has also worked for the London boroughs of Waltham Forest and Barking & Dagenham.

He has also undertaken reviews of other councils across the UK over the past 10 years, most recently for Birmingham City Council.

Leader of the council Cllr Tim Swift said: “I’m very pleased to be recommending this appointment after a challenging and competitive interview and selection process, which included a number of experienced and well qualified candidates.

“Robin has a strong track record of achievement in Calderdale, including on the successful bid which secured £7m from the National Lottery for the Piece Hall. He has also achieved national recognition for his leadership role on community cohesion. I’m very much looking forward to working with him to achieve our ambition to make Calderdale the best borough in the North.”

Subject to approval, Tuddenham is expected to be in post from 19 June.
