This strategy is built around a shared vision that transport will work well for people: it will be safe, reliable, affordable and accessible so people can get on in life and make the journeys they need to easily.

Better Connected sets out 3 principles that will underpin what we do and how we do it in transport:

  • putting people at the heart of everything we do
  • using transport to create better-connected places
  • working in partnership with local leaders and experts

It also sets out 8 priorities, informed by what people and stakeholders told us matter most to them:

  • simplify payments and information
  • provide dependable and safe journeys
  • make travel accessible and affordable
  • create healthier communities
  • align transport and development
  • champion data and technology
  • empower local leaders
  • optimise decision-making and appraisal

The strategy also sets out a monitoring and evaluation plan to ensure we meet our commitments and demonstrate progress towards better transport.
