Jobsgopublic release new white paper to aid employers in their apprentice recruitment
When it was announced as part of the Summer Budget in 2015, it was met with mixed reviews. Although the majority felt it would be a great way to shape the future workforce, many feared the extra pressure it would place on an already stretched service.
For a large portion of employers, experience of running apprentice schemes to this scale will be limited. Putting the schemes together, including arranging the appropriate training, is one thing but then attracting sufficient applicants is a completely different prospect altogether.
The well-publicised figure of three million apprentices by 2020 will require mass recruitment on a huge scale. In an effort to provide a helping hand, public sector recruitment specialists, Jobsgopublic, have released a brand new white paper ‘Preparing for Apprentice Recruitment’.
The white paper presents findings from an in-depth research project in candidate perceptions and motivations regarding apprenticeships. It also offers key insights gained from nearly two decades of public sector recruitment experience.

Jobsgopublic’s study has revealed that more than half of suitable candidates would consider an apprenticeship. This would suggest that there will be plenty of potential recruits, it is therefore crucial that public sector employers are able to attract them to their schemes. Jobsgopublic suggest that an ability to get inside the heads of their prospective applicants could be key to this.
When asked, Head of Marketing - Olivia Vines, highlighted some key aspects of the research to take away - “Unsurprisingly, salary and location do play a significant part in what candidates are attracted to, however these are by no means the only factors. Our study shows that providing an insight into company culture resonates deeply with prospective apprentices.”
“Also, when putting your apprenticeship schemes together, it is worth strongly considering a scheme in which the candidate will spend time in a number of different teams. This has proved to a strong preference of those who took part in our study.”
