In July 2024, the government commissioned Professor Becky Francis CBE to convene and chair a panel of experts to conduct the Curriculum and Assessment Review.
The panel is reviewing the existing national curriculum and statutory assessment system in England to determine to what extent they:
- deliver excellence for all
- prepare young people to address the civic and economic needs of our country and the wider world
- break down barriers to opportunity by equipping children and young people with the knowledge and skills to adapt and thrive in the world and the workplace
The review is being informed by research, statistical evidence and polling data. It is being undertaken in close consultation with:
- education professionals and other experts
- parents and carers, children and young people
- stakeholders such as employers, universities and trade unions
The interim report:
- explores the views given by these groups, including those given in the call for evidence
- sets out the review’s initial findings and next steps
It is accompanied by:
- an analytical annex
- the outcomes of a poll of key stage 4 and 16 to 19 learners and their parents
- a conceptual position paper
A braille version of the interim report is available as a .dxb file. You will need specific software to open it. If you do not have this software, you can request a hard copy. To enquire about either of these formats, email curriculum-assessment.review@education.gov.uk.
