New Maritime and Coastguard Chair appointed

Lord Stevens of Birmingham appointed Non-Executive Chair of MCA

Lord Simon Stevens has been appointed as the new Non-Executive Chair of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), by Transport Secretary Mark Harper. Lord Stevens will replace Christopher Rodrigues, who has taken up the position since 2021.

Lord Stevens of Birmingham Kt brings extensive experience as a senior leader in the public and private sectors in the UK and internationally. He is an independent member of the House of Lords and also Chair of Cancer Research UK.

His leadership will help the MCA achieve its objectives by supporting the delivery of the Department for Transport’s maritime strategic priorities.

The Transport Secretary made the appointment following open competition and is the third appointment in the post since it was introduced in 2017. Lord Stevens takes up post on 24 May 2024.
