LATCo Summit – 11th July 2019

The LATCo Summit 2019 – must attend for Local Authorities & Local Authority Trading Companies

There are now over 1,100 active Local Authority Trading Companies (LATCo’s) across the UK with this number growing fast year on year. Increasingly, councils are turning to the LATCo model to effectively deliver their services across a diverse portfolio including housing repairs, waste management, street cleaning, social care and grounds maintenance to name but a few.

LATCo’s have very quickly emerged as a strong and viable alternative to traditional forms of outsourcing for Local Authorities. Set up as either wholly owned, joint venture or social enterprise entities, LATCos allow Local Authorities to extend their service reach, create economies of scale and partner up with commercial companies and other public sector organisations to maximise their growth potential.

The LATCo Network, established in April 2019, is proud to be the first membership organisation founded entirely by LATCo’s for LATCo’s to provide a sector voice, and enable support to members delivering public services commercially. The Network’s mission is to use its collective experience to help members make the best decisions to innovate, thrive and find new collaborative ways of working using the LATCo model.

The LATCo Summit 2019 is the inaugural 1 day conference, being held at Coin Street Conference Centre on the London South Bank, bringing together forward thinking, commercially minded Local Authorities, LATCo's and other public sector, not for profit and commercial organisations working in and around this sector as enablers. The Summit will celebrate the beginning and launch of the LATCo Network (LN) as a forward thinking and innovative membership body for LATCo’s, sharing the story behind the LATCo movement, where it comes from, what is driving it and where it is going. The Summit will also share the experiences of Local Authorities and LATCo’s through the different stages of set up and operation.

The confirmed keynote speaker is Dawn Baxendale, CEO of Birmingham City Council who will share her perspective on the future role of LATCO’s, drawing in the council experience, especially relating to challenges and successes experienced to date. Other confirmed speakers and panel members are;

• Martin Farrow, CEO of Optalis
• Brian Deane, MD of Harlow Council
• Alison Waller, MD of Tricuro
• Richard Gawthorpe, Group BD Director of Norse Group
