Venue: Hallam Conference Centre
44 Hallam Street
London
W1W 6JJ
Date: 9 Jul 2014
Synopsis: This master class aims to explore current challenges facing health care professionals in emergency care setting in the light of the introduction of new anticoagulants. It will enable participants to address the safe management of anticoagulation in their clinical area.
Details:
Anticoagulation has remained unchanged for decades however new oral anticoagulants are now available for use in a variety of conditions. Health care professionals in the emergency setting are acutely aware of the dangers associated with warfarin and emergency protocols are well established. The new anticoagulants also pose challenges for health care professionals in emergency and unscheduled care yet many staff remain unaware of their existence and associated dangers.
This masterclass will introduce participants to the new oral anticoagulants and enhance their understanding of their use in practice. It will also consider how to manage haemostasis in all anticoagulated patients arriving in the emergency unit and the development of protocols to reflect contemporary practice. As newer oral anticoagulants become more widely used it is vital that staff understand the implications for practice of these developments and have polices and protocols in place to address them.
