The new five year antimicrobial resistance strategy outlines steps including:
“Improve education and training around the prescribing of antibiotics to reduce inappropriate usage and make sure patients get the right antibiotics, at the right time and for the right duration.”
The conference will cover implementing the strategy in hospitals, understanding what interventions work to improve antimicrobial prescribing, an extended session on antimicrobial stewardship, ensuring prudent antibiotic prescribing in nursing and by junior doctors, ensuring correct diagnosis before prescribing, the role of electronic prescribing in improving antimicrobial prescribing practice and developing the role of the antimicrobial pharmacist.
