Synopsis: Sessions will focus on the updated NICE guideline, preventing psychosis and treating people at risk, the use of antipsychotic medication and how to identify appropriate medications in a collaborative way, improving peoples experience of services, improving the physical health and reducing side effects which is a key national goal of parity of esteem, the role of cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis, ensuring a recovery focused approach and learning from the national audit of Schizophrenia.

The updated Guidelines on Psychosis and Schizophrenia in Adults were released by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence on the 12th February 2014. The Quality Standard for Psychosis and Schizophrenia is due to be published in February 2015 with the draft Quality Standard ready for consultation by September 2014.

The Chief Executive of Rethink said of the updated guidelines “We hope this new guideline heralds a significant shift in how people experiencing psychosis and schizophrenia and their families will be supported.
