Masterclass: Skills and competence Pre Operative Assessment Thromboembolism

Venue: Hallam Conference Centre, London

Date: 14 Jan 2014

Synopsis: Meeting the complex needs of your patients in Pre operative assessment, recognising multiple comorbidities, identifying action plan of care and optimisation?

Details:
This study day will look at the key factors required in pre operative assessment with particular emphasis on venous thrombo embolism risk assessment and bridging therapy for those patients considered high risk of thrombo embolism. In 2007 The All Party Parliamentary Thrombosis Group identified Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism account for 25,000 patient deaths per year. Many of the deaths would be preventable if accurate Venous Thrombo Embolism risk assessments were completed and appropriate thromboprophylaxis applied. Completion of the Risk assessment at Pre operative assessment provides the opportunity to identify the patient risk in advance of day of admission, and to initiate prophylaxis at an early stage. This training day will consider the opportunity in POA to complete the venous thrombo embolism risk assessment and will look at bridging therapy prior to surgery.
