As supporting people with mental health issues in the criminal justice system becomes more prominent in the Government’s agenda, Capita’s Improving Mental Health Services in the Criminal Justice System Conference ensures organisations are able to comply with new duties, manage demand and improve services for the most vulnerable in our society.
Following the introduction of the Police and Crime Bill which is set to change how people experiencing a mental health crisis can be detained, take away transferable learning from the Home Office on duties arising from the new legislation and receive an update on the Crisis Care Concordat from the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC).
Key topics include utilising liaison and diversion to prevent re-offending and identify vulnerabilities earlier, moving towards a more cost-effective telephone triage model and ensuring the court process is suitable when prosecuting those with complex needs.
