Retaining influence in Europe after Brexit

Synopsis: In 2016, the-then foreign secretary Boris Johnson said “while the UK is leaving the EU, it is not leaving Europe”. The UK and the EU will still need to deal with shared problems such as climate change and terrorism. The UK will also want to shape EU rules on data and health and safety standards that will continue to affect it after Brexit.

But the UK will find it much harder to do so once it is no longer ‘in the room’. In this session, speakers will explore how the UK must adapt the ways it engages the EU and why failing to do so could damage its long term interests.
