Synopsis: This course will provide participants with an understanding of the skills necessary to conduct effective negotiation and how these skills might be utilised in their area of work. Where participants have existing management training and/or experience of negotiation, this course will help them reflect upon how they can improve the use of these skills.

Facilitated by: Mary Burton is a qualified nurse who worked as a ward sister and then in a leadership position as a senior nurse manager before going on to set up and run a Patient Advice and Liaison Service. In this role Mary’s job was to listen to patients when they had concerns about the quality of the care they were receiving from the hospital, influence their thinking and where appropriate, negotiate with Consultants and other hospital staff on their behalf. Since leaving the NHS Mary has acted as Communication Skills Expert for Captive Health. Mary is a qualified trainer, and is passionate about helping people put service users first.
Ute Liersch BSc MBPsP is an educationalist who set up and ran a private language school for some 12 years before retraining as a psychologist. Ute has lectured internationally on theory of education and now specialises in cognitive development. Ute is a highly skilled and experienced trainer, who is able to bring psychological techniques to life in simple yet powerful ways in the classroom. Ute is driven by making a difference, and loves learning from the people she works with.
