Supporting Self Harm and Eating Disorders in Schools

Venue: Online

Date: 1 Mar 2023

Synopsis: Attend this masterclass to ensure that your school is prepared for their role in tackling the increased prevalence of self-harm and eating disorders amongst children and young people.

Details:

There has been a big increase in the reported cases of both self-harm and eating disorders, in many cases these conditions are seen together. Research suggests that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men have self-harmed at some point in their life and a record number of children are being treated for eating disorders.

This practical Masterclass will help senior leader navigate this topic gaining a better understanding of both conditions and the role of the school in supporting these students.

You’ll come away with know-how and practical ideas that you can put into action in your school to help you put in place preventative measures, aid early identification, and take the appropriate response. Understand the action you can take, whether it through improving PSHE programmes or implementing new or more effective policies and procedures.

During this masterclass you will also look specifically at supporting boys with eating disorders and self-harm, and how your approach might differ.

This Masterclass will broaden your knowledge so that you are able to work with other agencies, school staff and parents and carers to ensure that children are accessing the right support and treatment.

Senior Mental Health Leads, SENCOs, Pastoral Leads, Designated Safeguarding Leads, School Counsellors, School Nurses, members of the SLT should attend
