Synopsis: This national conference provides an essential update for current and aspiring nurse and pharmacist prescribers, and will be chaired by Barbara Stuttle CBE Chair of the Association for Nurse Prescribing who led the campaign for nurse prescribing and continues to support non-medical prescribers in their role.
â€œNurses and pharmacists are generally making clinically appropriate prescribing decisions. Decisions about the cost of drugs prescribed and assessment and diagnostic skills are areas for quality improvement.â€ Are nurse and pharmacist independent prescribers making clinically appropriate prescribing decisions? An analysis of consultations. â€œProperly trained non-medical staff should absolutely take on prescribing roles where itâ€™s appropriate. And indeed, as the health service moves more towards less hospital-based care, with an increased focus on integrated community services, this should result in a wider range of professionals prescribing medicines - especially in a community settingâ€ Prof Neal Maskrey Consultant Clinical Adviser Medicines and Prescribing Centre NICE Delegates will hear a national update from the newly formed NICE Medicines and Prescribing Centre on how to deliver the QIPP challenge for medicines use and procurement, plus an overview of the findings from both a review and an audit of non-medical prescribing and what can be learnt to develop non-medical prescribing practice and ensure nurses and pharmacists are able to prescribe safely and effectively to deliver high quality patient care. Personal case study presentations from experienced non-medical prescribers, an extended legal session, and a tips and advice session will provide valuable shared learning and practical guidance for applying in practice. 100% of delegates attending last yearâ€™s event would recommend it.
