Legal Masterclass: Confidentiality, Data Protection And Information Governance

Synopsis: This one-day interactive masterclass, run by a practising healthcare lawyer, aims to provide an understanding of the principles and legal requirements regarding patient information storage, sharing and disposal. From there, guidance will be given on developing organisational-level policies and protocols that will help with day-to-day management of this key function of the health and social care service.

Implementing policies and procedures that reflect these key principles can be difficult with complex legislative requirements and guidance. Objectives: • to familiarise delegates with the provision of Data Protection Act 1998 and related legislation including the Human Rights Act • to give delegates a thorough understanding of the common law rules of confidentiality • to provide an overview of recent DOH and GMC guidance • to enable delegates to make sustainable disclosure decisions and share information responsibly • to give delegates the ability to effectively scrutinse regular transfers of information, particularly in the context of unified and electronic records • to develop user friendly and practical policies and protocols
